I take this Awareness Collection very seriously. My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993, when she was a young mum of three girls; I was just 5 years old. After treatment with surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she beat her cancer and was thankful to be able to move on with her busy and fulfilling life.

Fast forward to 2006, we were all devastated to learn that Mum’s cancer had returned and was now Stage 4, with multiple tumours in her liver. The only option for treatment was chemotherapy, which Mum bravely endured again for 6 months. It was a tough time, but we were absolutely overjoyed when the doctors eventually announced that her cancer had been cured again despite the low chances, and that she was in complete remission.

It has now been more than 15 years, and Mum is still cancer-free. I know my dad, sisters and I, plus all our close knit family and friends are very lucky to still have Mum with us. If it weren’t for the incredible work of scientists and doctors, supported by amazing foundations like National Breast Cancer Foundation, we may not have been so lucky.

It makes me proud to be able to do my part to give back. Like all cancers, breast cancer is such a horrible disease. My hope is that there is a cure in my lifetime!

CANDLE CARE

If you’re wanting your candle to last longer with minimal soot, make sure you trim the wick to ½ cm before every single new burn.

As a candle burns, carbon naturally builds up on the wick. This is completely normal, however when a wick that has this carbon build up is re-lit, it can cause excess soot and heat, as well as produce a high, unsafe flame. This will give you a poorer candle performance.
